Newborn Care Questions
When you arrive to my home, what will you do?
This will vary but for an overnight shift, it can look like this: I arrive and discuss the day with you (challenges, questions you have, etc) then may take over care of your newborn or may wash bottles while you take advantage of a few more cuddles before bedtime. I will then take baby to their room and get them ready for bed. This may include a bath, but only if requested. Once baby is asleep, I am happy to do baby's laundry, refill nursery items, etc. Once any tasks are completed, I will rest in baby's room (or nearby) and will be ready to respond whenever baby wakes up. I will either bottle feed overnight or will make a plan with parents to bring baby to them if nursing.
Are you a Night nurse/baby nurse?
No, I am not a trained nurse. These terms are outdated and, because I am not a trained nurse, are illegal for me to use. Historically, Baby Nurses did similar things that we do, but they weren't often trained. I am highly trained and educated Newborn Care Specialist and Postpartum Doula.
Are you respectful of parents' choices?
Yes, absolutely! I am here to support you, not to tell you what to do. I am happy to educate you in all things newborns, but I respect you as the parents. I will always choose safety first and follow AAP Guidelines for safe sleep but am also happy to educate and support parents who choose to safely co-sleep/bed share. If I see any safety hazards, I will have an open and honest conversation with you in order to resolve it.
Newborn care is expensive! Is it worthwhile?
Every client I have had says YES! Whether you hire me for 1 week or 6 months, having support and newborn education will absolutely benefit your family. My rates are in line with local rates. An important thing to remember is that this is a temporary expense. It won't be forever and you will never regret choosing to get help and the ability to get sleep, I promise!
What areas do you serve?
I am based out of Michigan but am willing to work anywhere! I am currently only offering live-in and 24/7 care. If you’re in Northern Michigan and happen to catch me at home, I may be available for daytime/overnight care. Please reach out with any questions about availability or locations served.
